The figures hark back to pre-Islamic culture on Java and later were incorporated into the syncretic ritual practices of the Javanese.
Loro Blonyo were once a prominent part of Javanese culture with sacred values and a significant role within traditional Javanese wedding ceremonies and embody the synchronicity between Hinduism, Buddhism and the Muslim religions within Java.
This beautiful teak pair from central Java likely dates back to the early 1900s. Truly unique and irreplaceable.
