Vintage handmade Taspinar rug from Central Anatolia c. 1980s (52x48cm)
1980s Taşpınar rugs from the Niğde region of Central Anatolia are high-quality, hand-knotted wool-on-wool carpets known for their thick, durable pile and rich, naturally dyed colours. Typically featuring a bold central medallion with geometric or occasionally floral motifs and “running water” style borders, they commonly showcase deep reds and blues balanced with lighter accents. Woven with hand-spun wool and a solid knot density, these rugs are prized for their strength, traditional craftsmanship, and soft, velvety sheen created by natural lanolin. By the 1980s, while remaining faithful to classic designs, they began incorporating slight variations in pattern, making them especially popular today in vintage, rustic, and bohemian interiors.
